Start your morning by visiting the famous rope swing at Unawatuna Beach and enjoying the view of the crescent bay. Continue your journey south to Weligama Beach, where the wide, shallow bay provides the perfect, safe conditions for catching your very first surf wave.

Drive the short distance to Mirissa for an early morning whale watching tour—a seasonal highlight (best from November to April). After the deep-sea adventure, settle into the beautiful, horseshoe-shaped cove of Hiriketiya Beach for an afternoon of relaxing swimming and sunbathing.

Enjoy a relaxed final morning dip in the calm waters of Hiriketiya. After a very short drive to Rekawa Beach, the evening here is dedicated to conservation—join a guided local tour to potentially observe nesting sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs.

This is the first half of your necessary long overland journey, transitioning efficiently from the south coast toward the East. You will drive inland, passing through Sri Lanka's scenic green landscapes and rolling hills to reach the Wellawaya Area, breaking up the extended drive.

Complete the inland drive from the Wellawaya Area, re-emerging onto the coast at the lively surf town of Arugam Bay. Take time to settle in and immediately enjoy the laid-back, bohemian atmosphere and energetic vibe of this renowned East Coast gem.

Dedicate a full day to the main activities of Arugam Bay. If it's the right season, go for a surf lesson, or simply find a calmer section of the main beach for swimming. Conclude your day by visiting nearby Elephant Rock for a spectacular and memorable sunset view over the coast.

This is the longest necessary drive of the journey, connecting the remote southern surfing coast to the northeastern resort areas. Your destination is Pasikuda, known for its incredibly shallow, clear, and calm bay waters, which are ideal for a relaxing swim upon arrival.

Drive north to the main Trincomalee area and check into your accommodation near Uppuweli Beach. Spend the afternoon exploring the area's history by visiting the impressive Fort Frederick and the colorful Koneswaram Temple with its dramatic ocean views.

Take the final transfer to Nilaveli Beach for your journey's finale. Spend the day relaxing on this pristine, expansive beach or take the optional boat trip out to Pigeon Island National Park for excellent coral reef snorkeling before concluding your coastal adventure.
